A horrifying act of violence unfolded in broad daylight on the outskirts of Odisha’s capital on Thursday, leaving two women in critical condition and a local community in a state of shock.
The incident, which took place in the Bhingarpur area under the jurisdiction of the Balianta police station, involved two men who allegedly used their motorcycle as a weapon to run over and subsequently drag the victims across the pavement.
A Brazen Attack
According to eyewitnesses and preliminary police findings, the assault was characterized by extreme brutality. The accused reportedly targeted the two women by crashing their motorbike into them.
Rather than fleeing immediately after the collision, the suspects allegedly dragged the injured women along the busy road for a distance before attempting a high-speed escape.
The sheer audacity of the crime, occurring during peak daylight hours, caused immediate chaos and terror among commuters and residents who witnessed the struggle.
Citizen Intervention
The situation took a sharp turn when bystanders and local residents refused to let the attackers flee. A group of alert citizens chased the motorcycle and successfully intercepted the two youths, who are reportedly residents of the Adaspur area.
Before law enforcement arrived, the atmosphere grew volatile as the enraged crowd reportedly physically assaulted the duo in retaliation for the gruesome attack.
Investigation and Medical Status
Officers from the Balianta police station arrived shortly after to take the two suspects into custody. They are currently being detained and interrogated to establish a motive for the attack.
While the identities of the victims have not been officially released, authorities confirmed they were transported to a nearby hospital with severe, life-threatening injuries.
