Bhubaneswar (Special Correspondent, The Fact Bureau): In a chilling incident from Madhya Pradesh, a young child’s survival has become the only glimmer of hope in an otherwise heartbreaking crime.
Police have arrested a man, Rajendra Ahirwar, accused of killing his wife and abandoning their two-year-old son in a remote forest area that stretches across the Raisen and Vidisha districts.
The toddler was left alone in the wilderness for nearly 20 hours before being discovered alive, though in a fragile state.
Police said the accused had taken his wife Jyoti and their son out, claiming that they were going to buy a mobile phone. Instead, he allegedly led them deep into a secluded forest.
There, driven by suspicion of an extramarital relationship, he is believed to have attacked his wife, repeatedly striking her with a stone and killing her.
What followed has left many shaken. After the brutal act, the man fled, leaving his small child behind in the dense jungle, an area known for its harsh terrain and presence of wild animals.
How Police Rescued The Toddler
When the family did not return, worried relatives alerted the police. A massive search operation was launched, involving teams from multiple police stations.
Officers worked through the night, using drones, sniffer dogs, and foot patrols with torches to comb the forest.
At dawn, after hours of relentless searching, the child was finally found- alone, barefoot, and wandering through bushes nearly two kilometres from where he had been left.
Weak and dehydrated, but still conscious, he was quickly given water and food before being rushed to a hospital.
“Doctors are now monitoring him, and initial reports suggest he is out of immediate danger,” said sources.
Police later tracked down the accused and took him into custody. During questioning, he reportedly admitted to the crime.
Authorities have registered a case against him on charges of murder and attempting to destroy evidence.
The survival of the child has been described by officials as nothing short of miraculous. In the midst of tragedy, his resilience stands as a powerful reminder of the human instinct to endure, even in the most unforgiving circumstances.
