Bhubaneswar (Special Correspondent, The Fact Bureau): The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has confirmed the development of a low-pressure area over the Westcentral and adjacent South Bay of Bengal.
While the system is expected to intensify, current forecasts suggest it may not pose a direct threat to the state of Odisha.
System Development and Path
According to the meteorological office, the system is likely to transition into a well-marked low-pressure area as it moves in a north-northeast direction.
By the morning of May 24, it is projected to concentrate into a depression over the central regions of the Bay of Bengal.
The IMD further noted that the system is expected to continue its north-northeast trajectory, gaining strength as it moves.
Impact on Odisha
In a move that brings relief to the region, weather experts have indicated that the system is unlikely to have a major impact on Odisha.
Experts stated that the current path suggests the system will move towards the Bangladesh-West Bengal coast.
Heatwave Conditions Persist
While the low-pressure system may not bring rain, the state continues to grapple with intense heat. The IMD has reoortedly issued “Yellow Warnings” for several districts, predicting continued heatwave conditions.
